Franciscan St. Francis Health’s Indianapolis hospital will be the setting for the BBC World Service radio program "World Have Your Say" on Wednesday. “We were looking for a vibrant hospital community where we could reflect the conversations that are taking place there,” Ros Atkins, host of the show, said in a prepared statement. “Through the staff, patients and their families, we hope to give one snapshot of life in America.” The one-hour show, in which topics are determined by its 45 million listeners and by guests, is broadcast daily locally at 1 p.m. on WFYI-FM 90.1.

The Indiana Spine Group physician practice opened its new Indiana Spine Center today, claiming the facility is the only one in the state to provide all aspects of spine care in one location. The 60,000-square-foot center, in Carmel near 131st and Meridian streets, has 16 exam rooms, imaging equipment, a physical therapy unit and three operating rooms. The Indiana Spine Group includes seven physicians.

Eli Lilly and Co. and its partner Germany-based Boehringer Ingelheim GmbH have won European market approval for linagliptin, a diabetes drug approved in the United States in May. The oral tablets will go by the name Trajenta in Europe, a slight alteration from the drug's U.S. trade name of Tradjenta. The drug helps patients with Type 2 diabetes reduce their blood sugar. The European Commission approved it for use on its own or with the standard diabetes pill metformin.

Indianapolis-based AMD Lasers LLC was acquired in June by Pennsylvania-based Dentsply International. AMD, founded in 2008 by Alan Miller, provides desktop laser technology to dentists at lower prices. It introduced its first product, called Picasso, in 2009.

Indiana University Health last week opened a kidney transplant telemedicine outreach clinic in Gary, one of seven it has around the state. The outreach clinic uses videoconferencing to conduct follow-up consultations with patients who have had a kidney transplant—so they don't have to travel to Indianapolis to see IU Health’s transplant surgeons face-to-face. The clinic is at Indiana University Northwest. IU Health’s other transplant outreach clinics, all established in the past three years, are in Avon, Carmel, Evansville, Fort Wayne, Merrillville and South Bend.

Studio Theater

 Allow a little more time than usual to exit the parking lot at the Center for the Performing Arts this Saturday. Comic actor Martin Short will be performing in the big house, and emerging country star Chely Wright will be on stage in the Studio Theater. And if that isn’t enough to back up traffic, it will be closing night for Carmel Rep’s “Hairspray” in the Tarkington.

 The headliners should be worth it, though. Short, whose credits span Broadway’s “Little Me,” TV’s “Saturday Night Live” and “Second City,” and movies including “Father of the Bride,” will be bringing along some of his more noted characters, including Jiminy Glick (how he gets in and out of makeup should be interesting). Wright comes armed with music from her seventh album, “Lifted Off the Ground.” Details here.

-Glidden Paints leased 2,975 square feet at Greenwood Plaza, 1280 U.S. 31 North, Greenwood. The tenant was represented by Bryan Chandler of Eclipse Real Estate. The landlord, Jones Family Investments, was represented by Kyle Hughes of Veritas Realty.

-My Toy Garden LLC leased 2,257 square feet of retail space at Carmel Retail Court, 301 E. Carmel Drive, Carmel.  The landlord, Carmel-301 LLC, was represented by Paul Dick and Kevin Dick of Colliers International. The tenant represented itself.  

-RDhillon Corp. leased 2,000 square feet of retail space at 7460 Rockville Road.  The landlord, Indiana Real Estate Services LLC, was represented by Greg Smith of Colliers International. The tenant represented itself.   

-Carmel Family Optometry PC leased 1,443 square feet of medical space at Boardwalk Shoppes, 726 Adams St., Carmel. The tenant was represented by Dan Irish of ERA Real Estate. The landlord, KLC Realty LLC, was represented by Greg Smith and Joe Tarpey of Colliers International.
