A demolition ended plans to turn the crane bay structure into an events pavilion that could host farmers markets, weddings, corporate gatherings and other activities.
Retention of the crane bay structure had long been considered an integral part of the stamping plant redevelopment by neighbors and city leaders.
The project is expected to encompass about 7.5 acres on the river’s western bank and will include new green spaces, an amphitheater and a promenade overlooking the White River.
Johantgen, who has been with the theater nearly four years, said he has high hopes that momentum will continue to build in 2025—particularly as the theater keeps enhancing the visitor experience and finds new ways to fill seats.
The park will expand into 15 acres between the White River and Elanco Animal Health’s new headquarters and will include an event pavilion to be developed inside the remnants of a former crane bay that had been part of the original stamping plant.
The IEDC has renamed the business campus Levee—a nod to both the site’s proximity to the levee along the western bank of the White River and the word’s Latin root “levare,” which means “to lift up.”
Unlike the digital projection of many movies today, “Oppenheimer” at the museum will be shown from actual 70mm Imax film.
