Man gets life terms in killing of 5

March 14, 2012

A Franklin County man who pleaded guilty to killing a family of four and their neighbor was sentenced Wednesday to five life terms without parole. David Ison, 46, pleaded guilty to the murders of Angela, Roy, Melissa, and Jacob Napier and their neighbor, Henry Smith, while arguing over a drug deal in late September. Their bodies were found inside and outside Roy Napier's mobile home in rural Laurel, about 50 miles southeast of Indianapolis.

Man pleads guilty to killing cop

March 14, 2012

The man accused of fatally shooting an Indianapolis police officer pleaded guilty Wednesday morning to murder, robbery and possession of a firearm. If a judge accepts his plea agreement, Thomas Hardy, 61, will face life in prison without parole, plus 40 years. Hardy is accused of shooting officer David Moore, 29, during a routine January 2011 traffic stop and robbing a store the same day. Hardy was on parole but facing other theft charges at the time of the shooting. A formal sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 5.

Building-permit activity rises in February

March 14, 2012

The nine-county Indianapolis area rebounded from a slow January to post a 40-percent year-over-year increase in building permits last month.
